In-Depth: Galactic Civilizations II: Twilight of the Arnor
Twilight of the Arnor picks up some time after Dark Avatar, and the galaxy is in rough shape. The evil Drengin Empire still maintains major control while the Dread Lords quietly manipulate things from behind the scenes until it comes time to step out with a show of force. Fortunately, all hope isn't lost. The humans located the last of the Arnor, the ancient precursor race that holds the secret to defeating the Dread Lords. While the story might seem like pretty standard for space operas, the expansion delivers plenty of fantastic gameplay improvements and tweaks to make it compelling and keeps Galactic Civilizations II placed among the best strategy games around. Vivendi press release asserts Wrath of the Lich King to be released in second half of 2008
Vivendi Games, owners of the World of Warcraft franchise, have released their earnings statement for the first quarter of 2008, stating it was a 'Very Good First Quarter'. Specific financial information follows, including the admission of €5.3 billion in revenue, an increase of 5.2% compared to the same time last year. However, in an almost casually-mentioned fashion, the press release states "Blizzard Entertainment's second expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, is scheduled to be released in the second half of 2008." This appears before Blizzard has made any official announcement of the expansion's release date.
The Vivendi-Activision merger is still scheduled to be completed by the end of June.

Pirates get split in two for new Pirates of the Burning Sea update
One group is the Cutthroat; they are basically the typical nasty and dirty types that have been promoted in so many movies; they will steal ships and engage in combat quickly. The other type of pirate is the Buccaneer. They are being designed as more of a suave type of character who can help others out rather than just be a loner. They are also being designed as being more of an advanced type of character with a recommendation that they be played by experienced players of the game. The 1.4 update will also include new missions, skills and other new content. It's currently in testing but there's no word on a release date.

Latest NPD numbers show The Sims 2 still reigns
1. The Sims 2 Kitchen & Bath Interior Design Stuff Expansion Pack
2. The Sims 2 Double Deluxe
3. The Sims 2 FreeTime Expansion Pack
4. World Of Warcraft: Battle Chest
5. World Of Warcraft
6. Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
7. Sins Of A Solar Empire
8. World Of Warcraft: Burning Crusade Expansion Pack
9. Assassin's Creed: Director's Cut Edition
10. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2
That makes four years that The Sims 2 and World of Warcraft have been fairly consistently pwning the industry. The only other PC exclusive on the list is Ironclad/Stardock's runaway 4X RTS hit Sins of a Solar Empire. The others -- Call of Duty 4, Assassin's Creed, and Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 -- are multi-platform titles. WoW's position is no surprise, given the NPD's research with regards to online game revenues. The Sims 2's domination of the charts, however, speaks to a vast, silent market of gamers to whom hardcore games like Rainbow Six don't appeal.
Wrath of the Lich King detail explosion

World of Warcraft players heed our call. Blizzard dropped a ton of new information regarding the highly anticipated WoW expansion, Wrath Of The Lich King.
Probably the most exciting news outlined for fans of the MMO is the reveal of new details for the Death Knight hero class. Players who ding level 55 will be able to create one Death Knight hero per realm per account and signs point to the class still being available for all races; Worldofwar.net was shown Tauren, Dwarf, Gnome, and Orc Death Knights characters. The information for the new hero class doesn't end there as our sister site, WoW Insider, has the skinny on the Death Knight's rune system, role and abilities.
Other additions to the expansion include scalable party dungeons and the new backend system of the 5-man dungeon heroic mode. WoW Insider also has a breakdown of GameSpy's preview of new areas and quests in Wrath Of The Lich King, which include an aerial gondola, a huge sea battle, and apparently an archaeological expedition where you'll be able to fly planes.
Lead designers Jeff "Tigole" Kaplan and Tom "Kalgan" Chilton also dropped new information in an interview with Curse on the upcoming expansion as well as co-lead design J. Allen Brack in an interview with Gamespy. Both interviews covered such hot topics as Wraith's split raid system, flying mount level changes, feedback and much more. Kaplain and Chilton also presented details which outlined some of Wraith's new areas and changes to the original quest.
So WoW fans, that enough news for you in one day?
EA blinks: Mass Effect PC to remove 10 day Internet registration
The developer's community manager Jay Watamaniuk stated that after listening to the many messages on their forums protesting this move, they decided to change their minds "to ensure we are delivering the best possible experience" for their fans. The game will only ask for an Internet connection if the user chooses to download any patches or additional content such as the free Bring Down The Sky expansion. Hopefully this will be a good compromise for people who were concerned about this type of copy protection.
Sudden Strike 3 free expansion and editor coming in May
That's not all fans of Sudden Strike 3 can expect from Fireglow this month. The developer also announced they will release the map and mission editor for the game later in May allowing folks to make new single and multiplayer maps of their own. Fireglow also plans to release a number of video tutorials to make the process of learning the map editor easier. Specific release dates for the expansion and editor were not announced.
Mass Effect PC to require Internet connection
To be fair the game's system requirements do have an Internet connection feature (likely so that people can download their free Bring Down The Sky expansion pack) so people who want to buy the game will be forewarned. But BioWare Community Communications Coordinator Chris Priestly lays down the law to gamers asking about the requirement in his post. He states that players can install and play the game immediately but that after 5 days it will automatically try to register the game if you are connected to the Internet. If you happen not to have that connection it will allow you to keep playing the game for the next 5 days, asking you to register each time you boot up Mass Effect. After 10 days it will no longer allow you to play the game until you are connected to the Internet. Priestly states, "Once you reconnect to the internet and try to play, it will re-validate and you can play as normal for another period of 10 days as before."
Naturally this bit of news has generated a ton of responses from gamers to the message boards, a lot of which have been unfavorable to this move. BioWare technical director Derek French has been answering these gamers' inquiries so if you have any issues you can check out his responses on the thread.
